102碩士論文:Wobot-應用遠端臨場技術之互動溝通平台原型開發

  高齡化社會現象是全世界所共同面對的課題,許多創新的產品與服務也針對高齡者的健康照護需求而開發。而高齡者最大的風險不全然是健康問題,而是孤立與孤獨,因此如何可以將機器人科技帶入家庭中,使高齡者有被陪伴關懷的感覺,提升高齡者的心理健康,也是一個值得探討的議題。
  本研究目的為開發子女與高齡者之間的互動溝通平台-Wobot(我們的Robot)。Wobot應用遠端臨場互動技術,透過平板電腦上執行的Wobot Remote App,遠端使用者在與高齡者進行視訊通訊時,可以操控Wobot與近端的人或環境互動,或播放由平板電腦表情動畫搭配機器人底座動作之「三維表情貼圖」,來豐富溝通、互動的元素,為高齡者創造更多元的人際溝通經驗。
  Wobot的“Body and Brain”系統架構,將負責監聽、控制的平板電腦與負責執行動作的Wobot底座機器人分離,使得Wobot硬體較有可能商品化、產品價格也較被消費者所接受,更可透過App更新延長硬體產品的生命週期。充分結合現有雲端服務也是Wobot系統特色之一,如透過Google Talk傳遞指令,將兩端通訊從IP之間的溝通轉變成帳號之間的溝通,免除浮動IP所造成之困擾,同時Body & Brain的架構將Wobot的通訊與控制軟體設計成為使用者自有平板電腦上的App,便可充分利用Google Play應用程式商店內建的更新、統計、與使用者評論等功能。除了人際溝通之外,未來Wobot在娛樂、互動設計上也有很大的應用潛力。

Wobot - The Prototype Development of an Interaction and Communication Platform by Using the Telepresence Technique

Many countries in the world are facing the problem of aging. Many innovative products and services have been developed for health care of the older adults. However, one of the greatest risks in aging is not necessarily poor health, but isolation and loneliness. Therefore, how to bring robotic technology into the homes to companion the older adults and to improve their mental health is an important issue being studied.

The purpose of this study is to develop Wobot (meaning “Our robot” in Chinese), which is a platform for interaction and communication between the older adults their children. Telepresence interaction technology is applied in Wobot. During video conferencing, the remote user can control Wobot by using the Wobot Remote App on the tablet to interact with the local user, or play the “three-dimensional expression stickers” which combines the facial expression animation with the robotic movement. Wobot is expected to enrich interaction and communication elements and bring a brand new experience in interpersonal communication to the older adults.

Wobot has a special “Body and Brain” system structure. It consists of the tablet, which is responsible for listening to the commands and triggering the events, and the robotic base, which is in charge of carrying out the movement. In this structure, it is more practical to commercialize the robotic base. The price would be more acceptable for the customer, and the life cycle of the hardware would be extended by updating the app continuously. Making the most use of existing cloud services is another innovative feature of Wobot. Wobot sends commands through Google Talk, which turns the command communications from “IP to IP” to “account to account”. In the mean time, all the communication and control functions are designed into an app, which can take advantage of Google Play to update, gather statistics, and to collect the feedbacks from users.
